Walden Pond, New Jersey

Take me to the lakes,

Find me in the quiet,

Show me some forgotten place,

A wilderness, defiant.

Tell me why the birds don’t sing,

But spare me from the riot.

I need a dawn of forest green,

Forgotten things, and quiet.

Give me a Walden a moment more,

Each moment stretched forever.

The souls of the poets who died on the shore

Are kept; the earth remembers.
